Choosing a Meditation Bench | Blogs | DharmaCrafts

Because proper posture is key to meditation practice, we offer many alternatives to the traditional round zafu pillow and zabuton mat. Some people are more comfortable practicing on a meditation bench in the traditional Japanese kneeling posture, called "seiza" position. This position is an excellent alternative for people who have difficulty meditating with their legs crossed. Our benches also work well for reading, studying, gardening, or any activity where a poised, relaxed posture is essential.

Handcrafted of cherry wood with a hand rubbed finish, the Omni bench features curved legs which allow for individual adjustment and spinal alignment. A specially designed hinge holds the legs open and secure when the bench is in use, then closes easily to fold the legs for portability and easy storage. This best selling meditation bench is made in the USA and measures: 16 1/4" l x 7 1/2" w x 7 1/4" h.

This sturdy Seiza bench is designed for meditation in the "seiza" or kneeling position. Handcrafted in Vermont from beautiful deep grained hardwoods, it comes sanded and ready for finishing. Bench measures 18" w x 7 1/2" d x 8" h. The seat slopes from 8" in the back to 6 1/2" in the front.

The IKUKO meditation bench is designed to be carried everywhere you go — the legs are removable, and it comes in an organic cotton travel bag. The curved seat of this well-designed cherry wood meditation bench aligns the spine for comfortable sitting in the "seiza" or kneeling position. Handcrafted in Canada, each bench is unique due to natural variations in the wood. Weighs 4 1/2 lbs. 16 1/2" w x 7 7/8" d x 7 1/2" h. The seat slopes from 7 1/2" in the back to 5 3/4" in the front.
