As long as sentient beings remain,
Until then, may I too remain
and dispel the miseries of the world.
Since the 8th century, this short stanza from Shantideva's Bodhicaryavatara, or the"Way of the Bodhisattva" has been a source of inspiration for Buddhists who aspire to the bodhisattva ideal. It is the favorite prayer of H.H. the Dalai Lama who recites it daily. The bodhisattva vow — to remain in the world until every living being is free from suffering — is the never-ending compassionate intention that inspires all Buddhist practice. Like the bodhisattva's vow, our Möbius shape bracelet has no beginning and no end.
