Welcome to DharmaKids—your monthly source for children’s yoga lessons that inspire mindful movement, spark imagination, and nurture connection. Each month, we’ll share a book-inspired yoga plan designed to engage kids of all ages while supporting their physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, or educator, these lessons offer a playful and powerful way to bring the many benefits of yoga into a child’s world. In this post, we’ll explore the benefits of practicing yoga with children and give you a peek into our very first lesson plan!
Why Yoga for Kids?
Yoga offers more than just movement—it creates a safe and joyful environment where children can learn about themselves and the world around them. Here are just a few of the many benefits:

Above all, yoga can be fun—a mix of movement, storytelling, breath, and imagination.
What A DharmaKids Lesson Looks Like
Once a month, DharmaKids releases a brand-new yoga lesson designed to spark curiosity and movement in children of all ages. Each plan is created by an experienced children’s yoga teacher with fourteen years of experience.
We weave stories and sensory tools into every class to make the lessons engaging and fun. Below, you’ll find a list of recommended props—available for purchase in our store—along with step-by-step videos demonstrating how to use them in practice.
Recommended Tools
- DharmaKids Yoga & Nap Mat
- Eye pillow to deepen relaxation during savasana
-
Yoga Dust Brush (a glittery makeup brush repurposed for calming strokes)
- Hoberman Sphere (our breathing ball)
- Bird Soundbox: savasana timer
- Zabuton & Zafu meditation pillow
Eye Pillow
This versatile prop helps children explore relaxation and focus in different ways. Placed over the eyes during savasana, it encourages deeper rest. Resting it on the belly provides a gentle grounding sensation, while holding it out in front becomes a fun visual tool for balance poses.
Yoga Dust Brush
This clear-handled brush, filled with sparkling glitter, helps children visualize how their minds work. When the brush moves, the glitter swirls like busy thoughts. When it’s still, the glitter settles—showing kids how calm and clarity come with stillness.
Hoberman Sphere
This expanding and contracting ball is a favorite tool for guiding children through pranayama, or mindful breathing. As the sphere opens wide, it shows the inhale—just like our lungs and bellies filling with air. As it closes, it models the exhale, helping kids visualize and connect with the natural rhythm of their breath.
Bird Soundbox
This gentle soundbox plays a soothing bird song for two minutes, making it a perfect timer for children’s savasana. The calming sounds support relaxation, and when the song fades, kids know their rest time is complete—helping them transition smoothly back to movement.
Let The Yoga Adventure Begin
Yoga with young children is a joyful blend of movement, mindfulness, and magic—nurturing connection between breath and body, caregiver and child, and heart to heart.
