Ethical Jewelry
DharmaCrafts is pleased to partner with Article 22 Jewelry, Mines Advisory Group (MAG), and the Laotian craftspeople to create this exclusive collection of upcycled jewelry that not only expresses the highest aspirations of our hearts, but also contributes to the recovery and healing of the Laotian land and its people.
The Secret War in Laos from 1963-1974 left a legacy of 80 million unexploded bombs, known as UXO or unexploded ordnance. Forty years later, the Laotian countryside is still contaminated with millions of dangerous UXO which cause daily casualties to the Laotian people, especially children.
This jewelry was developed as a way to clear the land and "buy back the bombs." The aluminum bomb shrapnel, called "peacebomb " metal, is purchased through MAG, which has worked in Laos since 2004 clearing UXO. Village craftspeople melt and re-cast it to form meaningful, fashion-forward jewelry. Handcrafted in Laos.
