Kuan Yin, the female form of the Buddha of Compassion, is seated here in the pose called ‘Royal Ease’ (rājalilasana) which is meant to convey a sense of ease with what arises. Her body remains firmly seated from where she can observe the flow of the human condition, yet she is relaxed. Ease, letting be, and letting go are all ways of bringing ourselves gently into the present moment.
